Anacortes hosts an old-fashioned Independence Day celebration with a parade, old-time games, patriotic program, food and a community fireworks display that rivals any other in the region. Workboat Races

Anacortes will add another celebration of its maritime heritage at 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 18 with the Anacortes Workboat Races on the Guemes Channel. This event, with organizational support from groups including the Anacortes Community Maritime Center and the Sea Scouts, will take place on a summer weekend that also features 28th Annual Shipwreck Day (July 18, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Commercial Avenue, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce) and the What the Heck Fest (July 17-19). The free Workboat Races are ex- Watch Workboat Races Saturday, July 18 Workboat Races art by Bill Mitchell pected to draw crowds to Port Pier 1, just north of 4th Street adjacent to the water. Finish line for the Workboat Races will be at Pier 1. The event is free, and open to the public. Call 293-3134 for details or information regarding race participation

Up to 50 exhibitors display antique tractors, gas and steam engines, saws, grinders and working vehicles. There is a working blacksmith, food and activities for kids.
